Hello, and welcome to the Loci section on the
! Ok, let's get down to business.
A locus is not an insect! It is a group of points that is made by a point moving according to a given law.
A dog is chained to a post. The chain is 1.5 m long, so the dog can only move 1.5 m from the post at maximum. Sketch a diagram of the locus of the dog, if he aims to get as far away as possible from the post and consequently rotates round it.
The movement is circular, with a radius of 1.5 m. Therefore, the locus is as follows:
A tennis ball is thrown into the air from a point 2 m above the ground and, when it falls to a height of 2 m, is hit by a tennis player. The ball travels horizontally until it hits a wall 10 m from the point of release. It then travels to the place on the ground below the point of release. Sketch a diagram showing the locus of this ball.
